A concert full of sound: Emmendinger Kammerchor surprises with motets!
A very special concert will take place in Ihringen on Sunday, October 12, 2025, which is guaranteed to delight lovers of sacred music. Under the direction of David Mesquita, the Emmendinger Chamber Choir presents a demanding program that focuses on the tonal diversity and beauty of Venetian polychoral choirs. The concert begins at 6 p.m. in the Evangelical Church and takes a look at more than 400 years of music history.
Venetian polychoral music is a fascinating chapter in musical history. It originated in Italy in the 16th century, when Venice became an important center of music innovation. The Venetian School, which was flourishing at the time, revolutionized choral singing and produced composers who took polychoral music to new heights. The practice of two or more choral groups taking turns reciting psalms created a richness of sound that still reaches the hearts of listeners today. In the upcoming concert, this tonal richness will be audible through the double choir compositions by masters such as Gabrieli, Palestrina, Schütz and Bach. [Wikipedia] provides an exciting insight into the origins and development of these styles.
A program full of musical treasures
The concert will feature a selection of 8-part motets ranging from the Renaissance to the 20th century. These works offer insight into the different eras and styles of sacred music. The compositions by Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Brahms and Reger will also be part of the program and impressively show the development of polychoral music over the centuries. Mesquita particularly emphasizes how the interaction of the two polyphonic groups brings out the sonic splendor of the double choir music.
The chamber choir is supported by the Breisach vocal ensemble, Yasuko Hirano on the positive organ and Gabriele Basilico on the violin. The violone, a historic bass string instrument and precursor to the double bass, will provide the deep, resonant sounds that round out the musical performance.
Cards and enjoyable endings
Tickets for the concert are available in advance at prices of 20 euros (reduced 18 euros for pensioners, disabled people and students). Students even have free entry! At the box office, regular tickets cost 22 euros and the box office opens at 5:30 p.m. If the weather is appropriate, a champagne stand from the Mößner-Burtsche winery on the Schlossplatz will ensure a convivial end.
The event is organized by the Kammerchor Emmendingen e.V. and promises an unforgettable musical experience in which the tonal facets of the Venetian polychoral ensemble are impressively showcased. [Regiotrends] provides all relevant information for interested visitors.
