From a stroke to independence: Jörg Bossert fights back to life!
Jörg Bossert, a family man from Mühlacker, took his life back into his own hands after a serious stroke in 2015. One fateful day in August, when he was sitting in the car with his sons Moritz and Jonas, changed everything. The moment he felt his head start to flow, he lost consciousness after turning off the car. An emergency ambulance quickly took him to the Helios Clinic in Pforzheim, where a ruptured aneurysm was diagnosed. This sudden circulatory disruption, whether caused by a blood clot or a burst blood vessel, can have devastating consequences by cutting off the oxygen supply to the brain and causing nerve cells to die, as physiopaedikum.de explains.
After his impressive fight for survival, Bossert was put into an induced coma for eight days. Once he regained consciousness, he had to face reality: doctors told him that he might never be able to walk again. However, he did not accept this news - the man's willpower was strong. His goal was clear: to learn to walk again.
Rehabilitation begins
At the Gerlingen rehabilitation clinic, Bossert set his goals in small, medium and large stages and was determined to overcome setbacks. Initial progress was laborious; It took a whole year before he could wash himself without help. Today, ten years after the devastating incident, Bossert has built a new life independently in a small attic apartment in Mühlacker. Despite the spasticity that severely limits the movement of his left arm, he has made remarkable progress through intensive running.
His rehabilitation was characterized by daily physical therapy, which plays a crucial role in promoting the neuroplasticity of his brain. This ability of the brain to create new neural connections and relocate lost functions to healthy areas is critical to recovery from a stroke. Initial exercises to improve motor skills and mobility as well as targeted training to strengthen muscles and everyday skills help to regain independence (flintrehab.com).
A new quality of life
Returning to independence was a hard road. After leaving his time in rehab and in a retirement home behind him, Bossert found a new professional perspective at Rauschmayer Immobilien in 2018 and also got his driver's license back. Everyday life is now going quite well for him: “I work at least six hours a day and drive often, which is really good for me,” he says. In the moments when he experiences lows, it is often the support of his family, especially that of his sons, that offers him an important source of strength.
Bossert also takes a look into the future: a distant goal for him remains a trip to Sylt, where he would like to walk along the beach. These dreams and goals are important for people who have had a stroke because they can significantly aid the healing process, as demonstrated by stroke rehabilitation. Above all, support through physiotherapy and a focus on your own goals are crucial to paving the way to recovery.
