Construction work in Esslingen: Half-way zebra crossing closed on June 16th!
An important construction site is imminent in Esslingen-Sulzgries: Construction work on the zebra crossing on Kelterstraße will begin on Monday, June 16, 2025. The necessary measures are intended to help increase safety for pedestrians. However, it is important for consumers in the area, especially parents of school children, to know that the work is expected to take two to three days. During this time, half of the road will be closed, which will result in bus traffic restrictions.
The “Bergstrasse” stop, which cannot be served by bus lines 109 and 132 during construction work, is particularly affected. In order to help the affected passengers, the municipal transport company is using a minibus that runs between Bergstrasse and the “Maienwalterstrasse” stop. There, travelers can change to lines 109 and 132 and continue on their usual routes, even if the detours involve a certain amount of effort.
Additional security measures
An important reason for the construction work is the installation of new lighting at the zebra crossing. In recent months, the entrance to the Sulzgries elementary school and the junction with Sulzgrieser Straße have been redesigned, with safety in these highly frequented areas in mind. However, due to delivery delays, the new lighting could not be installed in time. These restrictions are particularly annoying because the ability to easily recognize pedestrians, especially in the dark, is crucial for their safety.
The mobile lighting that is currently being installed meets the highest requirements. According to the Highway Code, pedestrians have priority at pedestrian crossings, and the regulations require additional lighting to improve visibility. It is undisputed that the existing street lighting is often not sufficient. That's why modern LED lamps come into play, which offer a light color of normal white with 4,000 Kelvin, ideal for street and pedestrian crossings. These ensure that pedestrians are easily visible at dusk and in foggy conditions.
The projects in the Esslingen urban area are not only important for directly increasing traffic safety, they also show the city's commitment to continually improving the infrastructure. We really appreciate the fact that the neighboring city is implementing such measures so that we can go about our everyday lives safely. Even if the construction work causes short-term inconveniences, the end result of these measures is a safer environment and better traffic conditions.
