Eberspächer in Neunkirchen: Future-proof through hydrogen technology!

What's happening in Neunkirchen? A working environment is being created in the city that not only strengthens the regional economy, but also provides a glimpse into the future. The Purem factory in Neunkirchen is one of the renowned Eberspächer Group, which is currently celebrating its 160th anniversary. With around 1,000 employees, the plant has taken on an exciting role as it opens up new business areas and thus secures long-term jobs.

The Eberspächer Group, headquartered in Esslingen, has taken a clear course. In the future, the Neunkirchen factory will produce parts for electrolyzer systems for hydrogen production. “We are proud of this commitment,” explains plant manager Ralf Bickel, who played a key role in initiating this development. Things used to look bleak for the plant, as stagnating sales markets for exhaust systems meant that it would be closed. But now there is a breath of fresh air and new opportunities!

New business areas and hydrogen technology

The Eberspächer Group has recognized that it is time to position itself more broadly. In addition to producing parts for electrolyzer systems, the company will also develop pressure vessels for high-temperature electrolysis. The aim here is to make a valuable contribution to the hydrogen future and to improve the availability of hydrogen as an energy source. In June, the first two pressure vessels were handed over to a Danish technology manufacturer, which shows that the first steps in this direction have already been successfully taken.

“We see enormous growth potential in the hydrogen market,” adds Managing Director Steins. Eberspächer's managing directors expect the new commitment to bring them international competitive advantages. But that's not all: a team of over 15 people who work together in an interdisciplinary manner in Esslingen and Neunkirchen is researching a battery management system for lithium-ion batteries, which will also be integrated into the future concept.

Accept challenges

But the Eberspächer Group is not only facing the winds of change, it also has to fight against numerous challenges. High electricity prices and labor costs were identified as major stumbling blocks. Managing Director Peters emphasizes the need to reduce bureaucracy in order to improve competitiveness in Germany. In addition, Eberspächer invests 40 million euros annually in research and development in order to always be one step ahead.

Overall, it shows that the Eberspächer Group is not only a traditional company with a history spanning over 160 years, but also an innovator that is actively shaping change. From a small bottle factory, the company has developed into a global force with 10,700 employees at 80 locations. And the journey is far from over.

In summary, the Neunkirchen-based company and the entire Eberspächer Group are on the fast track to the hydrogen market, and it will be exciting to see how the company will continue to develop in the future. A good hand in strategy gives hope that Eberspächer will continue to play a central role in the automotive and energy sectors over the next 160 years.
