Thomas Matrohs will again be mayor of Deizisau (Esslingen district) on June 30, 2025 and is planning future-oriented projects.

Matrohs wins with 97.5%: Deizisau expects big challenges!

The mayoral election in Deizisau on June 29, 2025 was a clear result: Thomas Matrohs remains in office with 97.5 percent of the votes. There was no opposing candidate, which makes his re-election all the more clear. The voter turnout was only 34.4 percent, which Matrohs finds unsatisfactory, but he sees his result as a vote of confidence in his 16-year term in office. “We have to actively involve citizens in our decisions in order to strengthen democracy,” he emphasizes. This task becomes even more important as there are several challenges for the coming years.

Matrohs, who has been in charge of the community since September 2009, names a number of projects that Deizisau will have to tackle in the next few years. “We have to renovate our municipal buildings, promote climate protection and push forward fiber optic expansion,” he explains. “New forms of mobility and ensuring good primary care care are also on the agenda.” Money is a hot potato because the high standards in the community also have to be financed. Although there is no “poison list” for cuts, there is a need to use resources responsibly.

Future challenges

The mayor places particular emphasis on promoting social cohesion. “In times when many people are dissatisfied, we have to stick together,” explains Matrohs. The recent voter turnout – an aspect that is often discussed in Germany – shows that this issue is relevant. The decline in election novelties is a challenge that not only Deizisau faces, but many cities. Statistics indicate that many eligible voters in Germany question the usefulness of voting.

He recalls the voter turnout in recent years: it was 41.9 percent when he was re-elected in 2017 and 34.4 percent now. “We have to get citizens more excited about politics again,” says Matrohs. “During my appearances and the official presentation on June 24th, I tried to convince the voters.”

Looking forward

The mayor, who also seeks contact with the community, has a great desire to support the citizens and the local council with major challenges. He is an amateur musician and is proud to live in a community that offers a solid base as a place to live and work. “It is our task to maintain and further develop this basis,” explains Matrohs and summarizes his three central goals for the coming term of office: stabilizing municipal finances, supporting major challenges and strengthening social cohesion.

Thomas Matrohs is 48 years old, married and father of three children. With his membership in “Majors for Peace” he is setting an example for peace and cohesion. It will be exciting to see how he will shape the coming term of office and whether he can actually actively involve citizens in the change processes.

Looking ahead to the next few years and the challenges that await the community, it is to be hoped that the citizens of Deizisau will become more interested in their city and actively live democracy. Because there is something going on!
