Taxi driver in Leinfelden-Echterdingen seriously injured – witnesses wanted!

On the night of Saturday, July 5, 2025, a serious violent crime occurred in Leinfelden-Echterdingen in the Esslingen district. A 62-year-old taxi driver was found seriously injured next to his vehicle on Stangenstrasse. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. when an alert resident spotted the man and immediately alerted emergency services, according to Stuttgart News reported.

When emergency services arrived, the taxi driver was found with serious head injuries. After quick first aid, he was immediately taken to a hospital. The police assume a violent crime and are currently investigating whether the incident is related to a previous taxi ride. Forensic scientists have already been deployed to the scene to collect evidence.

Looking for witnesses

The Filderstadt police have launched a call for witnesses. Anyone who may be able to help solve the crime is asked to call 0711/70913. This act sheds light on the current crime situation in Germany, which, according to Statista, shows a slight decrease in registered crimes, but still creates a growing feeling of insecurity when it comes to certain crimes.

The police crime statistics from the Federal Criminal Police Office show an overall decrease of 1.7 percent to around 5.84 million crimes for 2024, but at the same time there is an increase in crimes that affect people's sense of security. Many citizens feel unsafe, especially in North Rhine-Westphalia, where crime figures are highest according to statistics. Crimes against life, such as murder or manslaughter, represent only a small proportion of the total, while crimes of brutality and fraud are increasing.

It remains to be seen whether the investigation into the case of the seriously injured taxi driver will provide any new information. The seriousness of the crime and the social impact it brings are alarming and show that the security situation in many cities remains problematic.
