Cycling hero Christian Lenk breaks the record: 1330 kilometers in Haiterbach!

City cycling has once again caused a sensation in the region. Christian Lenk from Dornstetten was able to set an impressive record while cycling in Haiterbach and cycled an incredible 1,330.4 kilometers. He thus successfully beat the competition and repeated his victory from the previous year, in which he cycled around 1200 kilometers. On average, Lenk covered 63.3 kilometers a day and once again showed that he has a good knack for this sporting event. Michael Wendlik secured second place with 1,322.3 kilometers, while Benjamin Axtmann took third place with 1,275.2 kilometers. A total of 107 cyclists took part in the competition and covered over 34,000 kilometers together, 34,875 kilometers to be exact. This resulted in a significant saving of 5,720 kilograms of CO₂, underlining the strong focus on sustainable mobility.

At the closing event, Mayor Kerstin Brenner emphasized the importance of promoting cycling and the success of the campaign. By actively collecting kilometers, the participants made a valuable contribution to climate protection and at the same time increased the quality of life in the region. A total of 592,468 kilometers were cycled in 14 participating municipalities across the district - a record that is 100,000 kilometers higher than the previous year.

Awards for the best drivers and clubs

Each participant received a certificate to commemorate the event. The three best drivers were also able to look forward to vouchers worth 25 euros. But the clubs weren't forgotten either: the best three clubs each received a voucher worth 50 euros. VfR Beihingen ended up at the top with 8,829.5 kilometers and an average of 440 kilometers per participant. TSV Haiterbach followed in second place with 5708 kilometers (357 km per capita), while the Stadtkapelle Haiterbach took third place with 4728.6 kilometers (315 km per capita). The open team also performed excellently with 2,470 kilometers and 494 kilometers per participant.

The organization of city cycling is part of a broad initiative that aims to promote cycling in various ways. It motivates citizens to give up their cars more often and use their bikes instead. The competition runs across Europe and not only brings local communities together, but also promotes awareness of environmental protection and healthy living. Like that Federal Environment Agency describes, the participants experience the benefits of cycling in everyday life and thus actively contribute to better air quality and less traffic. As part of the competition, the cyclists cycle both professionally and privately and can also count on a well-developed network of cycle paths in the municipalities, which is to be further expanded.

Overall, more and more cities and municipalities are taking the initiative to promote cycling and improve the quality of life. Participation in city cycling is possible for anyone who has a bike and is active in the community. Therefore, there are numerous ways to get involved in the coming season - perhaps in your community too! Stop by and join in when it's time to get on your wheels, get set, go!
