Uhlingen celebrates: New swimming center brings community together!

In Uhlingen, a small but beautiful town in the Göppingen district, Achim Gall realized a big dream: He opened a private swimming center that not only benefits him, but the entire community. After months of hard work and an investment of 250,000 euros, which Gall financed through the sale of two condominiums, the new bathroom shines. The first users - the ice bathers - did their laps in the large swimming pool with counter-current system in November last year.

The swimming center offers a wide range of facilities, including showers, changing rooms and even a turnstile at the entrance. There is a sun terrace for visitors to relax after swimming. The official inauguration took place at the end of May in the presence of the mayor and members of the state parliament. The response to the pool so far has been “manageable”, especially when you consider that the water is a pleasantly warm 26 degrees.

Diverse usage options

The swimming center is more than just a place for swimming lessons. It can be rented for various event formats, be it private parties or training times for clubs. The entry prices are fair at 3.50 euros or a ten ticket price of 25 euros. Swimming courses for children and adults are already being planned, but for now only for women. The necessary trainer for aqua fitness could still be found, which would add another facet to the offer.

But it's not just in Uhlingen that things are progressing in terms of sport. More and more municipalities in Germany are seeing the importance of sports facilities. According to a study by the German Institute for Urban Studies (Difu), by 2024 almost all communities will have sports halls and squares. But while demand is high, investment is often poor. Many municipalities require large investments to improve the often dilapidated conditions of their sports facilities - a problem that also has a certain relevance in Uhlingen.

Compared to larger sports centers

Especially in such a dynamic environment, it is even more important that small, private initiatives like Achim Gall's find their niche and enrich the sporting offerings. Even if the first steps in use may seem hesitant, the swimming sports center can make a valuable contribution to the sports culture in Uhlingen.
