E-scooter driver brutally attacked in Mannheim – police are looking for witnesses!

On the night of Saturday to Sunday, more precisely on November 1, 2025, a 37-year-old e-scooter driver in Mannheim was the victim of a brutal attack. At 12:40 a.m. the man was on the bike path along the B44 towards Waldhof train station when unknown perpetrators suddenly attacked him. They kicked him with such force that he fell off the e-scooter and injured himself. The incident has already caused a stir and is causing concerned reactions among the population.

After the attack, the victim went home and then alerted the police. The emergency services were quickly on the scene and took him to a hospital for further treatment. In the incident, the man not only lost his teeth, but also sustained several bruises. Despite an immediate search, the perpetrators have not yet been caught and the victim has not been able to provide any detailed information about them. The police are therefore asking for information from the public and asking witnesses to contact the Mannheim-Sandhofen police station on 0621/77769-0.

The risks of riding an e-scooter

Such incidents also shed light on the dangers associated with using e-scooters. These vehicles have become a popular form of transportation in urban areas, but they also result in increasing accident rates. According to a study conducted by Medical Journal published, e-scooter riders have a significantly higher risk of serious head and facial injuries. The TraumaRegister DGU has been recording accidents since 2020 and shows that 83% of those affected suffered serious injuries.

An alarming finding is that more than half of accidents occur at night and many of those involved are under the influence of alcohol. 62% of the e-scooter riders tested had a positive blood alcohol level, further illuminating the issue of responsible driving. The study assumes that the number of serious injuries among e-scooter riders may be higher than the documented numbers suggest.

Protective measures and education necessary

Given these circumstances, it is important to develop increased safety and education concepts to reduce the risk of serious injuries when riding an e-scooter. The police and the city of Mannheim are called upon to take appropriate measures to prevent such violent and accident incidents in the future. Society is also called upon to create greater awareness of the risks associated with the use of these trendy means of transport.

The events in Mannheim serve as a strong reminder and show that there is a lot to consider not only when riding e-scooters, but also in terms of public safety. Safe handling of e-scooters is urgently needed to minimize the risk of accidents and prevent criminal attacks.
