A serious traffic accident on the A5 towards Heidelberg caused massive disruption on September 19th. At around 1:45 p.m. there was a collision between a vehicle with a trailer that was transporting a motorcycle and a truck that was loading several cars. Two people suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital. The exact cause of the accident is currently unclear.

The consequences of the accident were clearly noticeable from the late afternoon: a backlog of up to 15 kilometers to Karlsruhe Nord formed, and traffic between the Durlach junction and the Kronau junction was temporarily backed up to 17 kilometers. This resulted in an estimated time loss of at least an hour for affected motorists.

Traffic situation is stabilizing

The full closure of the route was lifted on the morning of September 20th, but one lane remains closed, keeping traffic conditions slightly tense. It is advisable to allow additional travel time if you want to use the route. The clean-up work after the accident is in full swing and the relevant authorities are working to get traffic back to an orderly flow as quickly as possible.
