The UnterwegsTheater in Heidelberg is pleased to welcome the renowned choreographer Leïla Ka on Friday, November 14th. Her latest production “Maldonne” will be performed at 8 p.m. in the HebelHalle and promises to be an impressive experience. Five talented dancers present 40 individual dresses that come from second-hand shops. Each costume has its own name and tells the stories of the wearer. Leïla Ka has developed a special movement language for the production, which is strongly based on the roots of urban dance. “Maldonne” is characterized by powerful images of pain and unrest, which are powerfully expressed in combination with a varied soundtrack. The music includes old songs and chansons by Lara Fabian, which are interrupted by the silence and breathing of the dancers. This creative combination of movement and sound is a trademark of Ka, who brings her diverse identities and those of the dancers to the stage.
International award and thematic focus
Particularly noteworthy is the nomination of “Maldonne” for the International Dance Prize 2025 at London’s Saddler’s Wells Theater. In the current season, the UnterwegsTheater is inviting international dance guest performances that deal with the situation of women, which makes this performance particularly relevant.
The choreography is by Leïla Ka herself and the dancers who will captivate the audience are Océane Crouzier, Jennifer Dubreuil Houthemann, Jane Fournier Dumet, Jade Logmo, Justine Agator, Adèle Bonduelle and Lise Messina. The production is supported by Jane Fournier Dumet as choreographic assistant and by Laurent Fallot and Clara Coll Bigot, who are responsible for the lighting design. The sound design is by Rodrig De Sa and Manon Garnier, with the production being created in collaboration with several national theaters in France.
