Success story: Traditional company Herzog saved despite bankruptcy!
A traditional company can breathe a sigh of relief: Herzog GmbH from Kirchheim am Neckar has been successfully rescued from bankruptcy. Insolvency administrator Holger Blümle has announced that the Herzog family and an investor took over the business operations on July 1, 2025. With this takeover, all around 60 jobs will be saved.
Herzog GmbH, which was founded in 1902 by Friedrich Herzog, is one of the European market leaders in the field of caravan and mobile home awnings. How Mercury reports, the company's range is diverse and, in addition to the production of awnings, also includes products for camping, trekking and leisure. Herzog employs around 60 highly qualified employees in a production area of over 16,000 square meters.
About bankruptcy and its causes
The company's distress was a direct result of the economic consequences of the corona pandemic, price increases and a lack of income due to geopolitical upheavals. However, product sales continued without interruption during the bankruptcy, as the online shop and the attached workshop, which offers service and repairs, remained operational. Customers hardly noticed anything about the bankruptcy, which left many worried about their well-being.
Another aspect that... WLZ highlights: The pent-up demand for vacation travel that arose during the pandemic is met by rising material costs and changing customer purchasing behavior. This poses significant challenges for the entire camping industry. Stricter camping rules in popular travel regions are adding to the burden on companies.
The future of Herzog
Insolvency administrator Holger Blümle has already started discussions with potential investors to make Herzog fit for the future. Employees' wages and salaries are secured by insolvency money for a maximum of three months, which alleviates the current pressure. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether the measures aimed at getting Herzog back on track will be fruitful.
The current situation is an example of the general development in the industry: many caravanning dealers have filed for bankruptcy or ceased operations in recent years. According to data from the Federal Statistical Office, the Statista published, the number of insolvency proceedings increased significantly during the Corona and financial crisis. This will continue to lead to uncertainty in the future, both for companies and for consumers.
With the start of the holiday season, Herzog's rescue is even more important because the industry is hoping for stabilization. A view like this brings back some hope not only for the employees but for all camping enthusiasts.
