In Cologne, the anticipation of the upcoming celebrations on the island of Mainau on Lake Constance is entering the next round. Today, November 1, 2025, construction for the fifth edition of the Christmas Garden has begun and the spirit is already palpable. Next Wednesday, five trucks with materials will roll onto the flower island, which will be transformed into a glowing wonderland.

The new route stretches over two kilometers and is walked in a clockwise direction. The route may remain the same, but the productions are anything but ordinary. For example, the Metasequoia Alley is designed with individual music for each tree. Things get particularly romantic in the plane tree avenue, which has been specially designed for couples. The castle and its meadow also shine in a new light and invite you to enjoy the festive atmosphere to the fullest.

A magical experience for young and old

But the Christmas Garden has much more to offer. Visitors can look forward to numerous photo opportunities, including a large walk-in Christmas tree ball and angel wings. This year, a fairytale adventure world will be opening, inspired by the stories of the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen. A fairytale rally awaits the little guests here, with various rewards. Children also have the opportunity to rent hobby horses so they can gallop happily along the circular path. A very special highlight is the installation “Fairy Light”, which is even a German premiere. Here, an impressive forest of lights with up to 30 cones of light will create an enchanting light choreography that will enchant visitors. The organizers expect around 80,000 visitors, similar to last year. Nowadays, visitors can experience many Christmas markets with impressive light installations, which create an unforgettable atmosphere. The Christmas Garden also focuses on sustainability and a sense of responsibility: close collaboration with an ornithologist and a bat representative ensures that nature conservation is not neglected.
