New restaurant in Marbach: Neuberths are looking for Schiller names!
There is exciting news in Marbach, in the Ludwigsburg district: Alexander and Pia Neuberth are taking over the well-known Stadthallen restaurant, which is housed in the charming Schillerhöhe Stadthalle. The Neuberths are full of enthusiasm and are planning an opening for early fall 2025. Their goal? Giving the restaurant its own identity that makes the culinary experience unforgettable for guests. The restaurant will have a name that must include the term “Schiller” - a requirement from the municipality that is proving to be surprisingly challenging for the new tenants, as many suitable names are already taken or protected by copyright. Pia Neuberth is optimistic: “We still have time to think about the right name,” she says as she takes charge of the preparations.
The Schillerhöhe town hall is not only important for the new gastronomic concept. It was extensively renovated in 2009 and offers a picturesque location directly on the park, close to the Schiller National Museum and the Modern Literature Museum. Here, guests can dine not only indoors, but also on the sun terrace with a view over the Neckar Valley. The restaurant offers space for 100 to 120 guests, while the sun terrace and the “Schillerstube” offer additional seating for 80 and 14 people. The large hall of the town hall can also accommodate up to 900 standing visitors, making it perfect for events. The Parkhotel in the immediate vicinity also offers a rich breakfast buffet and newly renovated rooms.
Gastronomy in transition
The catering industry in Germany is like a barometric weather device that reflects the country's cultural diversity. Current statistics show that the industry is still facing challenges following the COVID-19 pandemic, according to g-wie-gastro.de. In September 2023, the number of employees in the catering industry was 6.7% lower than in 2019, while sales fell by 12.6% compared to the same months in 2019. Beverage sales were particularly hard hit, recording a decline of 12%.
Nevertheless, there is hope: After the pandemic, 78% of guests show a strong interest in restaurants that offer regional products, which is also important for the Neuberths. “We want to create a place that not only eats deliciously, but also practices sustainability and regionality,” emphasizes the couple. With over 50% of hospitality workers being paid less than the minimum wage in October 2022, it is clear that the industry needs a boost. And this is exactly where the Neuberths want to start: with a concept based on fresh, regional ingredients and authentic hospitality.
A look into the future
When it comes to bringing a breath of fresh air into the catering industry, many new businesses in the industry have established themselves in recent years. Around a third of new catering businesses survive their first five years; The Neuberths are aware of the risks, but want to counteract them with creativity and commitment. They not only follow the tradition of good food, but are willing to break new ground. Your restaurant will not only be a place of enjoyment, but also a place where people can meet and cultural events can take place.
“We are looking forward to creating a new cultural hub together with the community,” says Pia Neuberth. While the country's largest catering establishments are in need of fresh air, which generated considerable sales of over 620 million euros in the fast food sector in 2022, one thing is clear: the Neuberths are heading into the future with fresh enthusiasm and a clear course.
For everyone who is keen to follow the concept: stay tuned! The opening promises an exciting experience for all gastronomy lovers in the region.
