Karoline Felsmann becomes the new director of the Landestheater Tübingen!

The Landestheater Württemberg-Hohenzollern Tübingen Reutlingen (LTT) has appointed a new director, Karoline Felsmann, who will lead the theater's fortunes from September 1, 2027. The Board of Directors has thus made a decision that is of great importance for the LTT as well as for the entire cultural scene in Baden-Württemberg. Felsmann succeeds Thorsten Weckherlin, who has been in office since 2014 and whose term of office ends with the 2026/2027 season. She will prepare intensively for her first season from September 1, 2025.

State Secretary for the Arts Arne Braun highlighted Felsmann's many years of theater experience and emphasized her suitability for the position. The artistic career of Felsmann, who was born in East Berlin in 1979, is impressive. After studying dramaturgy in Leipzig, she worked as an assistant director at the Freiburg Theater for two years and later worked at various renowned theaters, including Plauen-Zwickau, Heilbronn and the Junge Theater Heidelberg. Her special skills came into play in 2014, among other things, when she developed the “City Theater of the Future” format at the Erlangen Theater, which was awarded the Federal Theater Prize in 2019.

Commitment and artistic vision

Karoline Felsmann brings not only her extensive experience, but also a strong commitment to lively and relevant theater. She is currently deputy director of the Neue Bühne Senftenberg, where she contributes artistically together with Daniel Ris and Elina Finkel. She focuses on acting, children's and youth theater as well as the communication of cultural content.

The decision in favor of Felsmann was not made without competition. A total of 52 cultural workers, including many international applicants, applied to succeed Weckherlin. A search committee then selected two applicants, which illustrates the high attractiveness of the position.

Future for the LTT

The LTT is one of the three state theaters in Baden-Württemberg and plays an essential role in the cultural landscape, especially outside of the large metropolises. The theater receives around 70% financial support from the state and 30% from local authorities, which underlines its key role in regional culture.

The coming years promise interesting developments for the Landestheater Tübingen Reutlingen and the entire audience landscape. Felsmann has a good knack for innovative theater, so audiences can certainly expect a lot in the near future.
