Yesterday, a dramatic mass carambolage with seven vehicles involved occurred on the busy Autobahn 5 near Sandhausen, in the Rhein-Neckar district. The A5, which is one of the most used motorways in Germany and connects important metropolitan areas such as Rhein-Main and Rhein-Neckar, was closed to Karlsruhe for almost six hours. The cause of the accident was a 57-year-old driver who noticed too late that the car was braking in front of him. As a result, he was involved in a chain reaction in which three vehicles in the middle of the column were pushed into each other by an impact. A 31-year-old driver tried to escape the situation and changed track, but touched the rear of the last car. The traffic jams and traffic information provided by the police and fire brigade show the dangers of such maneuvers on overloaded highways.
Injured and damage
In the incident, four people aged 24 to 55 suffered minor injuries and had to be taken to the hospital. Such a large number of injuries are of course unfortunate and once again shows how important careful driving is on such strongly frequented roads. The damage to the vehicles is around 96,000 euros - another economic misfortune for those involved.
