Shortage of doctors in Flötzingen: Discussing solutions and challenges

There is currently a lively exchange about medical care and infrastructure in Flötzingen. At an information meeting with FDP member of the state parliament Daniel Karrais, mayor Thomas Bausch and the members of the local council reported on the challenges that the community currently has to overcome. Particular attention was paid to the tense situation in health care, which is a recurring issue in rural areas.

The absence of pediatricians in particular poses great difficulties for many families. After several practices closed in recent years, access to pediatric services for parents in the region is severely limited. This development is not only noticeable locally, it is part of a nationwide problem caused by the lack of skilled workers in health care bpb reported.

Discussion about transport connections

The planned infrastructure projects were also discussed during the conversation. A cycle path between Flötzingen and the InKom industrial area and Zimmern is to be financed through federal funding, but this requires an application that is currently on hold. There is also a need to improve bus connections: many citizens would like to see an expanded range of services, although economic viability in rural areas is often a major hurdle. Karrais has therefore proposed dial-a-buses as a new solution to increase mobility.

Health care in rural areas

The challenges facing Flötzingen and similar communities are anything but new. A current study of health networks in rural areas shows that the shortage of doctors is particularly pronounced here. Projections suggest that by 2030, approximately 35% of primary care physicians and 25% of specialists will retire. A shortage of around 180,000 nursing staff is also expected, which will further exacerbate the situation. In this context, it becomes clear that innovative approaches to healthcare are needed, such as PKV describes.

Citizens in Flötzingen hope for a sustainable approach to improve medical care. To this end, the FDP has initiated the establishment of a medical care center (MVZ) in the district council, which will bring together employed doctors from different disciplines on site. Such a step could help to secure basic medical care and meet the challenges of demographic change.

It is clear that the need for medical services is increasing in an aging society. The discussion about regional health networks could represent a promising solution to improve medical care and close gaps in care. The Black Forest messenger emphasizes the need to promote exchange between municipalities and state politicians so that Flötzingen remains sustainable in terms of health and infrastructure.
