Successful Starter” training fair in Rottweil: A meeting point for the future!
The “Starter” training fair took place in Rottweil last Friday and Saturday, and the response was anything but cold. Organizer Bettina Weigl said that around 1,000 students and numerous families attended the fair. Although the temperatures were high in summer, concerns about possible low visitor numbers remained unfounded. On the contrary, the popular event brought together many young people and potential employers.
The exhibitors, who offered a wide range of information about their companies, products and apprenticeships, captivated the young people. Futures were discussed in numerous conversations, and quite a few were able to arrange internships directly. The positive exchange between the exhibitors and the young visitors was clearly noticeable, which was also reflected in the feedback from the exhibitors. Evelyn Eichinger from ddm Hopt & Schuler called the trade fair “very good”, while Michaela Schubert from Helios Klinik praised the high number of conversations. Ralf Rottler from Junghans Defense and Tobias Bayer from Mahle also saw the event as a great success.
Networking for the future
The training fair is not only a showcase for companies, but also important support in the search for young talent. At a time when the demand for skilled workers is increasing, the exchange between training companies and interested young people is becoming increasingly important. The city of Rottweil organizes the fair annually in the city hall and stable hall, and the motto “Experience companies, move students, accompany parents and teachers” hits the nail on the head.
The fact that career orientation plays a particularly important role for young people today is undisputed. According to information from Kofa, the demand for training places in shortage occupations has increased by 10.8 percent since 2013. At the same time, the offering in these professions has grown by almost 20 percent, which only further underlines the importance of the “Starter” trade fair. Companies are often faced with the challenge of filling their training positions, while the number of unfilled positions has increased from 4.9 percent in 2013 to 10.7 percent in 2022.
The challenges of the skilled labor market
A look at the statistics shows that despite the increasing demand for training places in shortage occupations, the proportion of interested young people who cannot find a training place has fallen slightly. While only 8.2 percent of applicants in shortage occupations remain without training, this number is 14.9 percent in non-shortage occupations. There is an urgent need for action to close the gap and secure the best talent.
In summary, it can be said that the “Starter” training fair in Rottweil is much more than just an event. It is a valuable platform on which companies and young people can come into contact in order to actively address the challenges of the skills shortage. The great interest shown by the students shows that we are probably on the right track.
