Large-scale operation in rooms: Fire brigade fights against devastating fire!

On Friday evening, October 11, 2025, Zimmern ob Rottweil became the scene of a dramatic large-scale operation by the fire department. A fire broke out at a local waste disposal company, with blazing flames and billowing smoke visible from several kilometers away. The fire brigades from Zimmern and Rottweil quickly arrived at the scene of the fire to prevent anything worse from happening. In addition to the fire brigade, the German Red Cross (DRK) and a police patrol were also on site to support and secure the situation.

The drama unfolded when the company's fire alarm system failed and the alarm had to be noticed by attentive witnesses. A bright glow of fire could be clearly seen on the outskirts of town. “It is not uncommon for us to be confronted with such an alarm,” said operations manager Frank Scherfer, who, together with his colleagues, contained the fire with two C-pipes and an aerial work platform. A large tank fire engine from Rottweil was also there to support the firefighters.

Major alarm and quick response

The alert levels had been quickly increased: from B2 to B3 and finally to B4, which meant full alarm for Zimmern. The alarm and deployment order (AAO) ensured that the right emergency services were on site at the right time. This procedure is crucial for averting danger, as Wikipedia explains. Among other things, it regulates the alerting of authorities and organizations entrusted with security tasks.

Luckily there were no injuries. The rescue service was on site to protect the emergency services, while the DRK emergency service was also alerted to provide food and medical care for the firefighters. Scherfer estimated the duration of the operation to be three to four hours in total, which meant that the threat could be brought under control before it spread further.

Fire brigades in action

The fire department plays a crucial role in everyday life and is usually associated with the tasks of rescuing, extinguishing, recovering and protecting. There are around 48,100 fire departments in Germany, and a significant proportion of these are volunteer fire departments, which have over a million members. It was these dedicated volunteers who helped protect the lives and property of citizens in over 229,000 operations in 2022, as Statista clearly shows.

Given the challenges of rapid response, the protection of fire brigade members cannot be neglected. The incidents of aggression and violence against firefighters show the sometimes risky conditions under which they work. In 2023, many such incidents were registered in North Rhine-Westphalia alone, which underlines how important the support of other organizations and institutions is.

Thanks to a quick and effective emergency response, the fire in Zimmern ob Rottweil was quickly brought under control. The cooperation between the various emergency services shows how important teamwork is in crisis situations and ensures that the safety of the community is always guaranteed.
