Heat trap school: Cooking classrooms in Villingen-Schwenningen!

The summer heat is affecting the schools in Villingen-Schwenningen. With temperatures reaching up to 30 degrees Celsius in the morning on Deutenberg, the classrooms often feel like “emerging ovens”. This is reported by Schwarzälder Bote, which is now causing an urgent rethink in the city.

Tim Dippong from the youth council already addressed this hot topic before the summer break. His words resonate because around 1,000 students at the Deutenberg school group are affected. The mayor, Jürgen Roth, sees the school management as responsible for when heat is given. “The decision is in the hands of the schools,” he states. Tino Berthold, the chairman of the parent council, also emphasizes that the problem affects far more schools than initially assumed.

Active measures by the city

Patrick Ganter, the city's spokesman, has already taken steps to improve the situation. The blinds on Deutenberg were partially repaired, and plans are also in the works for further repairs. In addition, the city provides fans upon request. “We are trying very hard to improve the school climate,” assures Ganter and emphasizes the importance of a cool learning environment.

A teacher suggests a creative solution by installing a sprinkler system in front of the school entrance. This could at least freshen up the outdoor area a bit while students focus on learning.

Heat and health

Heat is known to affect not only the atmosphere of the room, but also the well-being of students. Too much heat can reduce concentration and learning ability. A connection between external conditions and health has always been a topic of discussion in education and health policy. The problem is not just a question of comfort, but also a crucial element for educational success.

The rising temperatures show that the school authorities and the city administration are required to deal with this challenge. It is important to find solutions that are affordable for all students and teachers so that lessons can continue efficiently and healthily even on hot days. Time is of the essence because the next heat waves have already been predicted.
