Train cancellations: emergency bus service between Donaueschingen and Bräunlingen!

A weekend full of changes awaits the passengers of Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs-GmbH (SWEG). From today, Friday, November 7th, 9 p.m., until Sunday, November 9th, when operations close, the trains between Donaueschingen and Bräunlingen will be canceled. Deutsche Bahn InfraGO is carrying out short-term work on the switches in Donaueschingen that are necessary for this interruption. This has far-reaching effects on train traffic in the region.

In order to enable travelers to continue their journey comfortably, an emergency bus service will be set up. This is organized every hour between Donaueschingen and Bräunlingen. The buses leave from the Donaueschingen bus station, bus platform A1, in the direction of Bräunlingen and reach bus platform B1. The buses serve several stops along the way, including “Allmendshofen” in Donaueschingen-Allmendshofen, “Bahnhof/Donaueschinger Straße” in Hüfingen Mitte, as well as the stops in the industrial area “In Stetten” and at the train station in Bräunlingen.

Important information for travelers

Travelers should note a few regulations: Tickets will not be sold on the replacement buses. Passengers are therefore asked to purchase their tickets in advance from machines or sales points. In addition, bicycles cannot be transported on the buses, which could pose a practical obstacle for many commuters. Detailed emergency bus timetables are available www.sweg.de/ringzug but this information is not displayed in the electronic information media. But it's not just the trains between Donaueschingen and Bräunlingen that pose challenges. Local public transport in the region is currently under heavy strain due to a warning strike by the Verdi union. A similar strike was announced on January 28, 2025, which will affect both SWEG and its subsidiaries such as Nahverkehr Mittelbaden Walz GmbH and SWEG Bus Rheinmünster GmbH. The areas affected by the strike include the districts of Rastatt, Karlsruhe, Baden-Baden, Rhein-Neckar and Tübingen.

Effects of the strike

During the last strike on January 21st and 22nd, 2025, there were significant disruptions to bus traffic. Numerous lines in Sinsheim, Schwetzingen and Hockenheim were canceled, including lines 712, 713, 718 and 762. Behind the strike is a dispute between Verdi and the Association of Baden-Württemberg Bus Companies (WBO) due to collective bargaining, which is tied to the peace obligation deadline of December 31, 2024. The SWEG managing director Dr. Thilo Grabo is under pressure to find solutions that satisfy the almost 2,000 employees.

For passengers in the region, there is chaos in local public transport. Any inconvenience is annoying for travelers, especially when it comes to daily commutes. However, preparations for the weekend have been made to ensure travelers have as smooth a journey as possible, despite the difficulties that are the order of the day.
