70 years of sisters' lives: Antonia and Anna tell their story!

When two sisters still share their everyday lives after 70 years, it indicates a very special relationship. Anna and Antonia Breisinger live in Sigmaringen and are currently celebrating not only their long-standing relationship, but also their very different life stories. Anna, the older of the two at a proud 101 years old, grew up in Horb am Neckar, while Antonia, the 14 years younger sister, was born in Argentina. The two met for the first time in 1949 after growing up more than 10,000 kilometers apart.

The sisters' story begins deep in the past. Her parents emigrated to Argentina in 1924 to farm there, while Anna experienced the horrors of World War II in Germany. Antonia followed the events from a distance and later did remarkable work as a dentist in her homeland. But the longing for Germany became too great - the heat in Argentina got to her, and so she returned to become the region's first female dentist in Sigmaringen in 1955.

A common path in Sigmaringen

In September 1955, Antonia moved into her sister Anna's apartment to learn German. From then on, the two sisters worked together in the dental practice and accompanied the developments in Sigmaringen. Over the years they experienced both the decline in traffic and the arrival of the German army. While their city changed, they remained the same - their close bond experienced occasional friction, but also brought passionate discussions.

Another interesting aspect of their time together is that the sisters never let a man into their lives. This not only shaped their relationship, but also created its own dynamic. It's not just their different origin stories that connect them, but also their daily interaction in old age that makes them strong and united.

A look into the past

The context in which Anna and Antonia lived should not be underestimated. After the Second World War, Germany went through a phase of denazification that lasted until 1949. While these processes greatly influenced society, personal happiness was just as crucial for Anna and Antonia. Economic renewal in the West, including through currency reforms, led to the creation of a more stable living space. Ludwig Erhard successfully argued for the social market economy, which quickly led to an improvement in living conditions.

During this time, the opportunity for further training and self-realization also grew, from which Antonia benefited significantly with her dental skills. These developments reflect the changes in the society in which the two sisters lived and the internal struggles they had to overcome. It created a basis for integration and the opportunity to find one's place in this new, dynamic world.

A small detail from her everyday life that is particularly eye-catching: Antonia started learning Italian a few years ago at the age of 90 - without attaching much importance to grammar! An adventure in their old age that shows how life-affirming they have always remained. You could almost say that they have a good knack for discovering and learning new things even in their later years.

The lives of Anna and Antonia are not only a testament to family cohesion, but also a small piece of contemporary history in which the experiences of two women are placed in the context of major social change. And that's exactly what makes her story so unique.
