Bertha Benz School opens: Proud of the largest school project in the region!
The time has finally come: The Bertha Benz School in Sigmaringen is almost completed after three years of intensive construction. With a total volume of an impressive 113 million euros, this project represents the largest investment in the history of the district. While District Administrator Stefanie Bürkle and project manager Helmut Göppel-Wentz look proudly at the result, Economics Minister Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut is also enthusiastic about her visit to the construction site. She is impressed by the modern architecture and the planned sustainable technologies.
The new building, which was designed with an innovative concept by the architectural firm LRO GmbH & Co. KG, comes with many environmentally friendly features. Among other things, photovoltaic systems, an air-water heat pump and district heating are planned. By being designed according to the energy standard BEG 40 EE, the Bertha Benz School also meets the high requirements for sustainability. The building is expected to open in the coming school year 2025/2026.
A creative appearance
A highlight of the project are the new stickers, which the school community proudly presents. After the open day in October 2025, the brilliant idea came up to draw attention to the school with stickers. The saying "It's nice here. But have you ever been to the Bertha Benz School?" comes from Bertha specialist teacher Helmut Jäger. Color technology students were tasked with producing the stickers, which quickly became an insider tip in the region. Fridge magnets were also produced.
Public-private partnership
A special feature of the construction project is that it is being implemented as part of a public-private partnership (PPP). With this variant, not only the construction but also the operation of the school will be taken over by Georg Reisch GmbH & Co. KG for 25 years. This model enables long-term planning and ensures that quality and cost security are guaranteed in the coming years. This is not only economically advantageous, but also brings transparency for everyone involved. The economic assessment and the advantages of the PPP model are considered individually for each project, as can be found on the website of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection ( bmwsb.bund.de ).
The realization of the new building shows how planning, implementation management and innovative approaches to construction contribute to creating a school that meets the needs of the next generation. The Bertha Benz School presents itself not only as an educational institution, but also as a pioneer in the areas of energy efficiency and sustainability.
The school community can not only look forward to the new location, but also to being part of an exciting, modern project that is important for the Sigmaringen region. If you haven't visited the school yet, you should definitely take a look at the new Bertha Benz School - it's worth it!
