Despite the Kaufland closure, Herz-Apotheke remains a bright spot in Sigmaringen!
A change in retail is coming in Sigmaringen, as the traditional Kaufland will be replaced by Edeka in 2024. This is a real ritual for many people, as the weekly shopping here at this location shows. According to the Swabian newspaper However, the heart pharmacy will remain intact and will continue to keep the lights on at its location. Owner Hans-Joachim Hofmann has assured that the pharmacy, which has its own entrance from Georg-Zimmerer-Straße, will maintain its opening hours until 8 p.m. What was particularly pleasing for the regular customers was that they were very committed to keeping the pharmacy open.
It is interesting that the other shops in the Kaufland-Passage will close their doors by June 14th at the latest. The renovation of the new Edeka branch is already being planned, but the exact schedule for the reopening remains unclear for the time being. Hofmann expects Edeka to start operations in the summer of 2026.
Closings and reopenings across Germany
Kaufland is currently undergoing a deep restructuring process. The discounter has already started closing several branches in Germany, and this is expected to continue in the coming years. A look at the ProSieben Reporting shows that a total of several shops in North Rhine-Westphalia and Thuringia are affected. The closures are a response to current economic conditions. Kaufland is planning individual solutions for the affected employees.
The planned closures of Kaufland are listed here:
- Juni 2024: Filiale in Greiz
- Juni 2024: Filiale in Siegen-Fludersbach
- September 2024: Filiale im Bochum-Ruhrpark
- Januar 2025: Filiale im Palais Vest Recklinghausen
- März 2025: Filiale in Dortmund-Mengede
Despite these setbacks, Kaufland remains optimistic and plans to open new branches. Loud Echo24 New stores will be opening in Frankfurt and Waiblingen this year, among others, and a new opening is also planned for 2025 in Tuttlingen.
With more than 770 branches in Germany and around 90,000 employees, Kaufland is a heavyweight in German retail and part of the Schwarz Group. In addition to the closures, the company continues to face changes in the market that require more flexibility and adjustments to compete. This makes it all the more important to serve customers in the new markets accordingly and to keep the needs of consumers in mind.
