Disaster Prevention Day: Students learn first aid up close!
On Monday, May 25th, the seventh graders from the Luise Leininger School and the sixth graders from the Bilharzschule came together for an exciting day of action on the topic of disaster protection. The aim of this event was to give students an insight into the important topic of first aid experiences. Organizer Johanna Mater, school coordinator of the DRK Sigmaringen district association, put together a varied program that met with great interest and encouraged young people's participation. Loud Swabian newspaper The feedback from the students was rated as extremely positive and the DRK team received great thanks for organizing the day of action.
The event began with a joint input about disaster protection, followed by various stations where the students could learn important skills in groups. This included practicing the stable side position and applying a pressure bandage. Information about supplies in the house was also a central part of the activities. Particularly noteworthy was the use of the siren, which gave the students an authentic insight into emergency rescue.
First aid courses: valuable knowledge
Knowing first aid is important not just for students, but for all ages and professions. The Red Cross first aid course is aimed, for example, at driving license applicants, first aiders in the company and anyone interested. Lasting just one day and nine lessons, it provides the basic knowledge needed in emergencies.
There are special offers for institutions such as daycare centers or schools that are even free of charge. These are particularly aimed at groups such as children and families and convey security and the ability to act in emergency situations. Another interesting format of training is the“First aid with self-protection content”, which serves to promote understanding of disaster prevention and prepare participants for emergencies.
Diversity of courses
The different modules and target groups that the DRK offers, show the breadth of the offering. Whether for future parents, athletes or employees in companies – there are suitable courses for everyone. Children can learn how to react correctly in emergency situations, while seniors can find out about first aid in old age. Special training courses for company first aiders should not be underestimated, as these ensure that the necessary knowledge is always up to date.
Providing first aid can save lives at the crucial moment. That's why it's even more important that the population continues to educate themselves and be prepared for emergencies. All of this shows that the enthusiasm for knowledge about disaster control and first aid is not only there among the students during the action day, but is also promoted by the diverse offerings of the DRK and its partners.
