Top hospitals in the region: Who does well in the F.A.Z. ranking?
In the latest study by the F.A.Z. Institute, which annually determines the best hospitals in Germany, there is also exciting news for 2025. The results were published in a comprehensive analysis that draws from various data sources and is intended to help patients choose the right hospital. A total of 1,740 clinics were examined, of which around 700 received an award. Particularly noteworthy are the Tuttlingen District Hospital and the Zollernalb Hospital, which received awards in several categories, while the Sigmaringen SRH Hospital received nothing. The results are reported by Swabian.
An SRH spokeswoman, Gisela Dürr, emphasizes that such rankings only reflect part of the truth. Individual research and medical advice are essential in order to get a comprehensive picture of the quality of a hospital. The hospitals are evaluated based on various criteria: 50% of the points come from the current quality report, 25% from anonymous patient reviews and the remaining 25% are made up of social media and the Federal Hospital Atlas.
Awards and reviews
In detail, the Zollernalb Clinic was able to shine in five categories. The Tuttlingen District Hospital received awards in specialist areas such as orthopedics and trauma surgery, gynecology, obstetrics as well as anesthesiology and intensive care medicine. A hospital spokesman emphasized that although the rankings were seen as an incentive, the business interests behind such evaluations had to be critically questioned. It is noted that the license costs for usage seals in 2022 were between 6,900 and 14,900 euros, plus VAT.
A positive highlight is the Marienhospital Stuttgart, which was recognized as an overall hospital this year and received awards in nine specialist areas, including internal medicine and emergency medicine, reports das Marienhospital Stuttgart.
Transparency through quality reports
A central component of the assessment are the hospitals' quality reports, which are required by law. These reports contain comprehensive information about the equipment, the range of services and the quality of the medical offers. As the G-BA As explained, the data from the quality reports are also the basis for clinic search engines and comparison portals that help patients and doctors make informed decisions.
The reports provide information, among other things, on the number of specialist departments, the medical and nursing services offered and relevant quality results in specific service areas, such as obstetrics or cardiac medicine.
The discussion about the importance of rankings and quality assurance will probably continue in the future, but one thing is clear: transparency through quality reports is a step in the right direction for informed patient choice.
