SPD Baden-Württemberg adopts bold election program for 2026!

On November 16, 2025, the time had finally come: The SPD Baden-Württemberg adopted the election program for the 2026 state elections at its state party conference in Ulm. Under the motto “Because it’s about people,” 320 delegates and around 250 guests gathered to discuss the key points and decide on the program. Top candidate and state leader Andreas Stoch took the opportunity to present the programmatic guidelines and criticize the incumbent state government.

Stoch made it clear that it was time to focus on the interests of working people. The Greens and the CDU in particular were denounced for their lack of creative power and the lack of solutions to pressing problems such as affordable housing and a shortage of skilled workers. “The challenges that lie before us can only be addressed with more ideas, courage and a broad willingness to invest,” said Stoch.

Key points in the election program

The election program covers four central topic areas that form the core of the SPD's future policy: economy & work, education, housing and health. In the area of business and work, there is a particular focus on securing jobs, supported by clear location and employment commitments. Plans for a transformation billion and a sovereign wealth fund BW are also in the works.

Subject area Content focus
Economy & Work Securing jobs, free master training, amendment of the state collective bargaining law.
Education Demand for free daycare centers and a legally anchored teaching guarantee; Measures to modernize and build new schools.
residence Combating the affordability crisis, reorganizing housing subsidies, protecting tenants through rent controls.
Health Ensuring hospital care within 30 minutes, access to emergency practices, salary subject to social insurance contributions for caring relatives.

The path to a strong social democracy

The federal chairman of the SPD, Lars Klingbeil, underlined the need for a strong social democracy in Baden-Württemberg and emphasized that the topics of the election program are classic social democratic concerns. “It’s about keeping people’s lives affordable in difficult times and getting the economy going,” said Klingbeil.

In addition, the SPD plans to hold a state representative meeting after the party conference on March 8, 2026 to further determine its state list. Recently, a position had to be filled here: Daniel Born decided not to run again due to a swastika affair. The entire election process ends with the final adoption of the election program on January 11, 2025, which will then be referred to as the “government program”.

Overall, the SPD Baden-Württemberg promises to give its voters a good feeling with an extensive program and to face the challenges that the future holds. It remains to be seen whether the plans will lead to a strong result in the 2026 state election.
