B313 between Sigmaringen and Engelswies completely closed from Tuesday

From next Tuesday, July 14, 2025, the B313 federal highway between Sigmaringen and Engelswies will be completely closed until the beginning of September. The reason for this measure is extensive renovation work, which not only involves renewing the road, but also laying fiber optic cables and improving cycle paths. This work is divided into two construction phases and is expected to be completed by September 5th. How SWR reported, the costs for the road renovation amount to around 2.4 million euros, which are financed by the federal government.

The first construction phase lasts from July 14th to August 3rd and affects the Engelswies through town, while the second phase takes place from August 4th to 30th and extends to Vilsingen. The route between Inzigkofen and Sigmaringen will also be closed during the entire construction period, which could pose major challenges for residents. A large diversion via the B311 leads back to Sigmaringen via Meßkirch and Krauchenwies. However, cyclists can be guided past the construction site via an “emergency route”. The adjustments to the bus timetable will be published in good time so that there are no surprises here either Swabian notes.

Need for renovation

The renovation work is of great importance because parts of the base course of the B313 are already over 50 years old. Constant maintenance is necessary, especially given modern traffic levels, which are estimated to exceed 120,000 vehicles per day in many sections. Loud BMV The infrastructure should be regularly maintained and renewed to ensure traffic safety and avoid consequential damage. This includes not only large projects such as the renewal of bridges, but also smaller maintenance measures.

In this context, the expansion of the cycle path towards Engelswies, which is financed by the federal government, is also mentioned. However, the municipality of Inzigkofen remains responsible for traffic safety and maintenance. Discussions are already underway with private property owners to create sufficient width for the cycle path. While this construction work progresses, the municipal administration is also planning to expand the barrier-free bus stops on the thoroughfares, which is a necessity in Engelswies and Vilsingen.

The priority here is on the bus stop at the pilgrimage church in Engelswies, for which 118,000 euros have been budgeted. However, funding for the stops is not possible due to the low costs. The local council will therefore also examine further barrier-free expansion in order to generate funding if necessary, which illustrates the option for a second stop in Vilsingen, which is not yet barrier-free.

The coming months will not only bring challenges due to the road closure, but also important improvements to the local infrastructure, from which both drivers, cyclists and pedestrians will benefit in the long term.
