Bridge over B 30 will be demolished: full closure in Laupheim from Friday!
A risky undertaking is imminent: From Friday, December 5, 2025, the bridge over the B 30 and K 7507 near Laupheim-Baustetten will be demolished. This measure is necessary because the condition of the old bridge, which was built in 1967 and expanded in 1986, was classified as inadequate. The demolition is expected to last until Monday morning, December 8, 2025. During this time, the B 30 will be completely closed between Laupheim-Süd and Biberach-Nord, which will cause a major diversion. The diversions for traffic in the direction of Biberach and Ulm have already been determined.
Baden-Württemberg reports that the total costs for the new construction of the bridge, which is planned to have the same location and length, will be around 2.93 million euros. Of this, the Federal Republic of Germany will cover around 2.84 million euros, while the city of Laupheim will contribute around 92,000 euros.
A look beyond the city limits of Laupheim shows that the modernization and replacement of inadequate bridges is a widespread problem in Germany. According to that Federal Ministry of Transport Around 40,300 bridges in the country are due to a transport infrastructure that largely dates back to the 1960s and 1980s. These bridges are in urgent need of modernization to meet the demands of increasingly intensive traffic. The 'bridge modernization network' is scheduled to be completed by 2030 and includes almost 10,700 bridge substructures.
Traffic planning and diversions
The Ministry of Transport has already presented measures for the bridge renovation near Hochdorf that take into account the traffic impacts. The decision to rebuild the bridges on site with full closure was considered time-saving and cost-effective. Berthold Frieß, Ministerial Director, emphasizes the importance of these measures in view of the risks that older bridges can pose, such as the problem of prestressing steel, which is prone to stress cracking. After the collapse of the Carola Bridge, special caution is required. Therefore, the decision for a full closure is also very relevant for the safety of road users.
Some of the bridges that are to be repaired or replaced in Baden-Württemberg in the next few years have recently come into greater focus. Currently, around 73 bridges in the country are at risk of stress cracking and the aim is to replace all of them by 2030. According to that State of Baden-Württemberg Work is already underway on detailed planning of the diversion routes in order to make the additional traffic safe and tolerable.
In summary, it is clear that bridge replacement is not just a local concern, but a national one. Transport planning sees it as necessary to make our roads and bridges fit for the future. The coming weeks are likely to be exciting not only for the cities of Laupheim and Hochdorf, but also for everyone who relies on the B 30. It remains to be hoped that the diversions will go smoothly and the new bridges will be robust and safe.
