Landau invests millions: cycling is becoming the new reality!
A new chapter in the transport transition is opening in Landau. With a bold step towards more sustainable mobility, the city is becoming a pioneer in the cycling scene. The city administration has decided to further expand the paths for cyclists and has budgeted a total of 100,000 euros for this. Of this, 41,000 euros come from the climate protection pot for cycling, like this Rhine Palatinate reported.
A central project is the Green Island on the corner of Westring/Südring/Wallstrasse, which has impressive dimensions of 9 x 16.40 meters. The lane widths of 8 to 9.20 meters are still sufficient for buses and trucks. While the expansion of the city's cycle paths has been completed for the time being, future projects are already on the agenda. In particular, connections to the surrounding area and Wollmesheimer Straße are planned. These measures are to be supported with federal grants over four years in order to further improve the cycling infrastructure in Landau.
Results and future perspectives
The modal split study by the TU Dresden provides an interesting detail, which sheds light on mobility in cities. This data will be incorporated into the planning and help to better understand the needs of citizens. The focus on cycling shows that Landau wants to become an attractive destination not only for pedestrians, but also for cyclists.
But innovative projects are not only making progress in Landau. A lot is happening worldwide in the sustainable technologies sector. Kreisel Electric, which acquired a majority stake in John Deere in 2022, is planning a new production facility in Kernersville, North Carolina. This will be an impressive 115,000 square feet and support a production capacity of up to 2 GWh. Construction is scheduled to begin in fall 2023 and production will begin in 2025. This factory will not only develop and manufacture Kreisel batteries, but also the state-of-the-art CHIMERO chargers. John Deere has a long history in Kernersville and benefits from technical talent and excellent infrastructure here Kreisel Electric communicates.
In both cases it shows that the initiative to improve infrastructure and the commitment to environmentally friendly technologies can go hand in hand. While Landau focuses on cyclists, the next step in battery production is being taken in the USA. An exciting time for everyone interested in sustainable mobility.
