Peter Gaymann: Humorous exhibition in Tübingen full of surprises!

Today in Tübingen: The exciting anniversary exhibition “Laughter in Crazy Times” by the popular cartoonist Peter Gayman celebrates the artist's 75th birthday with a colorful selection of 200 original drawings. The opening took place yesterday evening, June 26th, and was already a complete success. Moderator Jakob Schwerdtfeger led the evening, while the a cappella group XANG provided a good musical atmosphere.

The exhibition, which can be seen in the New Art Museum Tübingen until August 3rd, revolves around seven thematic areas, including “Gayman on Tour”, “The Couple Problems” and “Getting Older, but with Humor”. A highlight are certainly the anthropomorphized chickens that live in Gaymann's “chicken universe”. He became known for his “animal papers” that appeared in the “Badische Zeitung”. Many of these drawings show how humorously and creatively the artist depicts everyday situations.

A look into the world of Peter Gaymann

Peter Gaymann's career is just as remarkable as his art: The born draftsman studied social work in Freiburg, where he took his first steps into the world of drawing during his studies. After graduating in 1976, he left his career behind and concentrated on illustration. He celebrated his first successes with “Gaymann's Animal Leaves”, but it didn't stop there. Over the years, Gaymann has created an impressive 20,000 drawings, which can be found in numerous publications.

In his years-long career, Gaymann has not only published cartoons, but also experimented with different media. The exhibition, for example, features museum postcards for the first time in which he paints nudes with clothes. He also deals intensively with the topic of aging and has published calendars and books with humorous cartoons about dementia. This year, a lot of things revolve around looking at periods of life with a wink.

Events and workshops

Visitors to the exhibition can look forward to some interesting events. A cartoon workshop with Peter Gaymann is planned for July 10th, where participants will learn to develop humorous drawings from their everyday observations. The cost of the workshop is €25.00. There is also a reading with Gaymann and Alexandra Lüthen on the program, in which the story “Nu Jork, Nu Jork!” is presented, an exciting adventure about a chicken who runs away from his dreams.

Gaymann's impressive works and his ability to combine humor with a deep sense of observation attract numerous art lovers to Tübingen. If you don't want to miss the opportunity, we recommend visiting the exhibition and the accompanying events. In addition to the cartoons and sketches, the artist's human side is also clear, making many people smile and think.

Peter's career is a beautiful example of how, with a humorous look at life, you can make not only yourself but also many people around you laugh. A journey through the world of the smiling chicken is a must for anyone interested in art in the region!
