New foot and cycle path to the ski hut: safety for families in Spaichingen!

Just in time for the winter season, a new footpath and cycle path is taking shape in Spaichingen. In the last two weeks, the Storz road construction company has laid out a path on the district road to Hausen, which will soon be opened. City architect Benedikt Schmid is confident that the surface will solidify over time and thus offer a long-lasting solution for hikers and cyclists. The new route allows users to get safely from Spaichingen to the ski hut and represents a welcome improvement to the infrastructure.

It is particularly worth mentioning that the first wheel and horse hoof tracks in the soft gravel surface already indicate a lot of use. This is a clear sign that the trail is well received, even before it is officially opened. The idea of creating this footpath was taken up by the Free Voters in the town hall in order to increase safety for families during their excursions. The committee approved the project in February last year and the tender took place in the summer of 2023.

Challenges and solutions

As with many construction projects, there were challenges. Delays occurred due to property negotiations when a property owner made an unacceptable offer. However, thanks to the cooperation of another property owner, an exchange of land was agreed upon so that the path runs largely on district and municipal land. A particularly notable downside was the decision to abandon the original plan to run a cycle path to the border in Hausen, as it would have had to run through the forest and away from the road.

Cyclists currently use an old gravel path between Hausen and Spaichingen that crosses the road three times. Mayor Markus Hugger, who lost a leg after a motorcycle accident and now rides a converted e-bike, is showing great interest in the new cycle path signage, which will make the region more attractive for cyclists. He regularly explores the district with his wife and appreciates the now safer connections.

A look at the gastronomy

But it's not just the walk to the ski hut that causes a stir in Spaichingen and the surrounding area. The culinary delicacies are not neglected either. The list of the best restaurants in Europe 2023 was recently presented. The focus is on the opinions of the members of the OAD platform, based on their experiences. Of the 150 award-winning restaurants, 42 are from Spain, an increase of two restaurants compared to last year.

  • 1. Alchemist, Kopenhagen (Dänemark)
  • 2. Restaurant Frantzén, Stockholm (Schweden)
  • 3. Etxebarri, Axpe (Spanien)
  • 4. Bagá, Jaén (Spanien)
  • 5. Desde 1911, Madrid (Spanien)

The list shows a positive development for Spanish gastronomy, while places 6 to 10 are occupied by other renowned restaurants. This provides an incentive for foodies to come to the region and explore the diverse culinary offerings.

Overall, it can be seen that Spaichingen is not only making progress in terms of infrastructure, but is also demonstrating its culinary side with a variety of first-class restaurants. The new footpath to the ski hut is therefore part of a positive development that benefits both locals and visitors.
