New prayer room in Trossingen: Integration for Muslims begins!

There is news in Trossingen that is of great interest to the local community. A new prayer room for Muslim worshipers was originally scheduled to be operational, but delays in deliveries have thrown the schedule into disarray. The carpet and furniture for the room, all specially ordered from Turkey, are expected to arrive in early December. The entire redesign cost around 60,000 euros, which was financed by the Trossinger Educational and Meeting Center Association and generous donors, as schwaebische.de reports.

The prayer room will be set up in the hall of the “Linde” hotel-restaurant on the corner of Achauerstrasse and Gaisengasse and is the first of its kind in Trossingen. The members of the association have so far met in private rooms to pray. The demand for such a space was therefore great. Mayor Susanne Irion informed the local council about the preliminary building request, and the response from the neighborhood was positive, so that such a project is open to such a project [schwarzwaelder-bote.de].

Design and equipment

The new prayer room will be specially equipped: In addition to a carpet that is more robust and softer than conventional versions, a two-by-two-meter prayer niche will be built that faces directly towards Mecca. Three to four steps are also planned for the preacher and shoe racks for the believers. Calligraphy, including depictions of Allah and Mohammed, will adorn the walls, giving the space a spiritual atmosphere.

In order to meet the requirements of enabling various religious practices, washrooms for prayer ablution should also be set up in the empty basement rooms of the “Linde”. The first use of the new room is planned for December, with the first prayers for around 30 to 40 families from Trossingen. In addition to the weekly Friday receptions, daily prayers are also planned.

Economic aspects and integration

The “Linde” hotel was taken over by the Kahf family’s real estate company in August 2023 and reopened in September. It not only offers the new prayer room, but also ten rooms and three apartments. These are particularly popular with business travelers and visitors to the nearby music college. The new hotel manager, Ahmed Ghadban, brings cultural knowledge with his Syrian origins and supports the integration of the Muslim community in Trossingen.

The restaurant “Damas – Grillhaus” reopened on All Saints Day with a new oriental-Mediterranean menu that conveys ideas of diversity and interculturality. Pork and alcohol are avoided here, which respects the culinary traditions of the Muslim faith.

In order to reduce fears of contact, the association is planning an information evening for residents in the Hotel “Linde” and will also be present at the Trossinger weekly market. A sophisticated security concept, including video surveillance of the building, ensures the safety of all users. The official opening of the prayer room is planned for the beginning of 2026, with an invitation to the Trossinger local council.

This is what the future looks like in Trossingen: a place where people from different backgrounds can come together to respect and support each other. This is not just an achievement for the Muslims in Trossingen, but a win for the entire community.
