Flaming inferno in the upper stadium: 55 emergency services fight the fire!
On the night of Thursday, November 12, 2025, there was a devastating fire in the Oberstadion, which kept the local fire brigade on their toes. At 4:28 a.m., concerned neighbors alerted emergency services after noticing flames in the barn. 55 emergency services from the upper stadium, lower stadium and Munderkingen immediately arrived to stop the fire. The German Red Cross and employees of the Federal Agency for Technical Relief also didn't take long to support the fire department on site schwaebische.de reported.
The extinguishing work, which lasted a total of around half an hour, was made particularly difficult by dense fog, which impaired the emergency services' visibility. After the fire was secured, extinguishing work continued until midday. Fortunately, there were no injured animals and the emergency services remained uninjured. Mayor Kevin Wiest was present on site; his home is only about 100 meters from the burning barn. The amount of damage is estimated at over 100,000 euros, as the barn served as a storage facility for machines and oil drums. A technical cause cannot be ruled out, which makes the investigation into the cause of the fire complicated.
Emergency forces under the sky of Cologne
Particularly noteworthy is the deployment of the Alb-Donau district's drone squadron, which supported the fire brigade from the air. This innovative measure makes it possible to have a better overview of the situation and to control the extinguishing work in a more targeted manner. This shows once again that the technical resources and know-how of the fire department are crucial in an emergency.
However, residents' concerns remain high. Who would have thought that a quiet night could suddenly turn into a flaming inferno? The good news: The fire department's quick action prevented anything worse from happening and brought the fire under control within a very short time. Despite the challenges that the circumstances presented, the emergency services have once again proven that they have a good hand when it matters most.
Finally, I would like to think outside the box: In the face of such incidents, it becomes clear how important it is to prepare for emergencies. As we engage with the latest happenings around us in today's digital world, we can also take a step back and appreciate the many opportunities available to us - be it connecting with our neighbors or creatively unwinding through fun activities like puzzles. Because, as a well-known saying goes: “After the rain comes the sun”. The time for recovery will also come for Oberstadion.
