An exciting year is ahead: The Sparkasse Foundation in the Zollernalbkreis has launched the 2025/2026 educational competition. Under the motto“It’s better together: understanding – experiencing – preserving democracy”Innovative projects should be supported in schools. There are no limits to all types of schools in the Zollernalb district - from primary schools to high schools to vocational schools. The deadline for submitting projects isOctober 31, 2025, and the best ideas can win prize money of up to4,000 eurosbe happy.
What exactly can schools expect? The projects submitted should be new concepts with an innovative approach and model character that have not yet been implemented. An independent jury will select the winners, and the media partners will monitor and document the progress of the projects. The funded projects must be implemented by:May 31, 2026be completed. Digital applications are possible via Stiftung Kunst Bildung Kultur.
Success stories and funded projects
As part of the last competition we were already able to14 student projectsreceive funding in the Zollernalb district. These projects were developed by students who pursued innovative ideas and concepts about democracy. The winners were announced at a celebratory awards ceremony attended by teachers and representatives from Sparkasse Zollernalb. These awards show how important it is for young generations to engage with democratic values.
Democracy in schools
In order to further anchor the idea of democracy, a comprehensive school in the Zollernalb district is organizing a project week with the title"Democracy: Here. Now. You. Me. We!". During this week, students and teachers explore different facets of democracy. Around50 offersoffer topics such as tolerance, moral courage and participation and are tailored to the students' lives. Offers in simple language were also created for this purpose, which enable language and integration classes to take part.
A highlight of the project week isdemocracy market, where stands from eight exhibitors are presented. This gives students the opportunity to actively engage with the topics and collect knowledge. In addition, aInclusion courseoffered, which brings participants closer to practical experiences in the area of inclusion. Here, students were able to impressively experience how challenging it can be to understand certain perspectives.
The commitment to Democracy Week has already borne fruit: over1,000 studentstook part in this initiative and the project was even awarded with theStudent Peace Prize 2023of the country. Most activities, such as posters and Instagram posts, aim to reach other students and create a comprehensive awareness of democratic values.
The coming year therefore promises not only exciting projects, but above all a lively discussion of the topic of democracy by an entire generation. Initiatives like this are urgently needed because it is important for Elas to sensitize and encourage young citizens for democratic processes.
