Heat battle in Rehling: Celebrate 150 years of the fire department with a parade!
The finale of the festivities to mark the 150th anniversary of the Rehling Volunteer Fire Department took place on Sunday, and the marquee was already well filled with fellow firefighters and numerous guests in the morning. The special weather conditions ensured that the ladies of the festival protected themselves from the oppressive sun with umbrellas. In the midst of this heat battle, District Administrator Klaus Metzger praised the solidarity and tireless work of the fire department.
Mayor Christoph Aidelsburger took the opportunity to recognize the extraordinary commitment of the firefighters, who often ensure the safety of the community under extreme conditions. Commander Stefan Limmer also expressed words of appreciation for the active members and the helpers in the background and honored the chairmen Justin Kaiser and Christoph Stolz for their exemplary organization of the festival. After lunch the time had finally come: numerous clubs gathered for an impressive parade.
Parade and cheering
A remarkable number of almost 80 clubs and eight bands took part in this colorful parade. The procession was so long that some of the first groups were already returning while the last ones were still moving. The highlight was the clubs' celebratory entry into the festival tent, where they were cheered on by cheering spectators. Ensign Richard Smid led the entry and was enthusiastically cheered on by thousands. Despite the harsh conditions, the marquee was full until the end, with many standing on benches and tables so as not to miss anything.
“It was a successful festival that took place without any significant incidents,” said a satisfied organizer. In the evening, the organizers celebrated the successful conclusion of the festival internally.
A look into the future: anniversary in Gschwend
The Gschwend fire department, which was founded after a devastating fire in 1874, now has 103 active members, 26 in the youth fire department and 24 in the senior department. As part of the festival preparations, sponsorship requests have already been sent to local and national companies, and the entire event logistics, including the marquee and music bands, have already been set up in 2023. An exciting festival program is in the starting blocks: from the after-work party to the big ceremony and a big parade.
The fire department, which consists of 103 active members, will support the festival and promote the anniversary through creative activities such as a beer mat tour and appearances on social media. With State Secretary Thomas Blenke as patron and attractive offers for groups, anticipation will also be great in Gschwend.
There are several opportunities for all fire service enthusiasts and interested parties to connect locally with the topic of fire services and to recognize the valuable work of the volunteers. In this sense, fire brigade history is not only celebrated, but also actively shaped - a won tradition that is worth bringing into focus.
