What’s new from Stätzling? Today we can spread the good news that the children of the St. Georg Catholic daycare center in Stätzling won the district's environmental award in 2023 with their great commitment. Like the district administration reports, the little environmentalists were honored for their projects dealing with sustainability and environmental protection.
As part of the award ceremony, the preschool children visited District Administrator Dr. Butcher. An exciting day for the little ones, which also brought with it real gifts: They not only presented him with a picture they had designed themselves, but also a symbolic key for the new district office building. What a valuable experience!
Snack and sightseeing
After this celebratory moment, there was a shared snack during which the children were able to enjoy one or two delicious pieces. They were then allowed to explore the boardroom and the district administrator’s office. Here they learned exciting things about the work of the district administrator and learned interesting facts about the greenhouse effect from the climate protection office. The little ones were naturally very interested, and who can blame them?
But that's not enough! In order to properly use the children's energy, there was also an exercise game. Certainly not just fun for the little ones, but also a valuable opportunity to be active and clear your head.
Environmental prices and their meaning
The district's environmental award, which the children won, is one of a number of international awards that honor environmentally conscious projects. These include, among others, the Goldman Environmental Prize, which has been awarded since 1990, and the Champions of Earth Award, which has been honoring environmentally friendly initiatives since 2005. This award recognizes people and organizations who have made a special contribution to environmental protection.
Although the children in Stätzling are still very young, they show us that even the smallest ones can make a big contribution. With a good knack for creative ideas, they can become ambassadors for environmental protection and inspire others to get involved.
After an eventful day, the children finally took a bus back home - with lots of new impressions and a very special memory of their visit to District Administrator Dr. Butcher. It remains to be hoped that the enthusiasm for environmental protection will continue to burn in their hearts and that they will continue to play an active role in shaping it in the future.
