Major operation in Töging: Missing 89-year-old found after hours of searching!

On June 28, 2025, a missing 89-year-old resident of a retirement home in Töging am Inn caused an extensive police operation that lasted until midday. At around 10:30 a.m. the home reported that the lady had left the house in the early hours of the morning without checking out. Given their atypical behavior, the police did not rule out an accident. It quickly became clear that action had to be taken quickly to bring the senior citizen back safely.

A large contingent of forces was mobilized to begin the search for the missing woman. These included patrol crews from the Altötting and Mühldorf am Inn police stations, two service dog handlers, the federal police and a police helicopter equipped with a thermal imaging camera. The volunteer fire department and the local water rescue service were also involved in the operation. While the water rescue service searched the Inn canal between Mühldorf and Töging and the underwater canal, the police were on the Inn with a team between Töging and Neuötting.

After about two hours of intensive searching, the rescue workers were able to give the all-clear at 12:30 p.m. - the senior citizen was found safely in the Töginger urban area. The police expressly thanked all emergency services for their smooth cooperation.

Here too, the staff arrived quickly and the police were alerted. A large contingent consisting of numerous officers, a search dog and a police helicopter was necessary to find the man. He was found safe and sound the next morning.

Given these events, it is clear that the issue of safety for older people in care facilities is an important concern. Accidents and missing persons cases in such facilities are not uncommon. According to the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, an accident at home or during leisure time occurs approximately every six seconds in Germany, highlighting the need to take preventive measures. The authority has been investigating accidents in homes for years and has already published numerous suggestions for preventing such incidents.

How can relatives and carers prevent older people from ending up in such situations? A collective awareness of safety precautions and regular inspections in residential complexes are essential to ensure the safety of older people.

In light of these incidents, it is essential to keep a close eye on the safety and well-being of our elderly. Attention must be paid to comprehensive protection not only in Töging, but also in facilities throughout the country.
