Dementia weeks start: encounters and support in Amberg-Sulzbach!
The anticipation is increasing: From tomorrow, September 19th, the Bavarian Dementia Weeks 2025 will begin in Amberg and the Amberg-Sulzbach district. These initiatives send an important signal for openness and support in dealing with dementia. Around 26 events are planned over a whole month - until October 27th - that offer both informative and creative approaches.
Diverse program for every taste
What can visitors expect? A colorful program with specialist lectures, creative formats, participation activities and exchange opportunities. These events are designed to raise awareness of dementia and provide support for those affected and their families. It starts with a flash mob tomorrow at 10.30 a.m. on the market square in Amberg, where the public is invited to take part and get into conversation. There will also be a cinema afternoon with the title “Laughing with Grandma and Grandpa” in the Ringtheater on the same day.

Support for caring relatives
A central concern of dementia weeks is supporting family caregivers. According to the Dementia Guide, over half of people with dementia in need of care live in their own four walls, usually accompanied by family members. They often have a lot of responsibility, which can often lead to exhaustion. It is therefore important that relatives seek support in good time to avoid being overwhelmed. The legal right to advice and training offers valuable help for those working in care. There are currently free advice and training courses available to help relatives.
Networking and exchange are crucial to mastering the challenges of everyday life. Self-help groups and personal exchange opportunities can offer valuable support. It is advisable to build a network from which the entire family can benefit. Given the complexity of dementia, good organization is crucial to maintaining a quality of life for everyone involved.
The start of the Bavarian Dementia Weeks in Amberg is not only a sign of solidarity, but also an invitation to everyone to actively promote further integration and understanding for people with dementia. Find out more and get involved!
