Commitment week in Amberg: Strong together against loneliness!

A very special September is coming up in Cologne! The 21st edition of the Week of Civic Engagement will take place from September 12th to 21st, 2025. The aim of this nationwide campaign is to discover and appreciate voluntary work, as the Oberpfalz Echo reports. This event is organized by the Federal Network for Civic Engagement, and there are plenty of opportunities to get actively involved.

This week offers an invitation to anyone who would like to contribute to the community. Jugendfreiwilligendienste also mentions that numerous events are planned throughout Germany, from (online) workshops, voluntary work assignments and sporting events to excursions and relaxed coffee meetings. There will be a colorful program that covers the topics of culture, environmental protection, participation, digitalization and sport. The focus this year is on the “Active against Loneliness” campaign – an important issue in our society today.

Engagement online and offline

The city of Amberg's volunteer agency, which is also taking part, has adopted the motto “Engagements Online and Offline”. The agency sets up clotheslines with offers from Amberg organizations, institutions and clubs in order to raise public awareness of volunteer work. You can scan QR codes or take photos of information to make contact easily. That's a good way to combine digital with analog engagement!

In addition, an image film is presented on the volunteer agency's website, which gives a great insight into their diverse work. These creative approaches show how volunteer work can be made visible and tangible and invite everyone interested to become part of the campaign.

Volunteering in Germany

The importance of volunteering cannot be overestimated. There are over 86,000 sports clubs active in Germany, in which many volunteers make their contribution. In addition, over a million people are involved in the voluntary fire department, mostly on a voluntary basis. Churches, food banks and various charitable organizations are also always looking for motivated supporters. According to Statista, volunteering encompasses a wide range of opportunities, all of which are connected by the same desire: to help people and promote social interaction.

The importance of this activity is further underlined with the International Day of Volunteering on December 5th, which takes an annual look behind the scenes of volunteer work. So if you've never thought about volunteering before, you should take the opportunity to try it out during this volunteer week. You might even make one of the best deals of your life and find a new passion!

So be there and take the chance to get involved in the coming week of civic engagement. The community will thank you.
