Dog bite in Aschaffenburg: woman injured, owner flees!

A dog bite attack in Aschaffenburg caused a stir. On Thursday morning, a 43-year-old woman was walking in the castle park with her male Weimaraner when she saw another dog unobserved. The off-leash dog attacked her four-legged friend in the head and leg area. “You have to intervene in a situation like this,” the woman probably thinks and tries to separate the two dogs. But unfortunately she was bitten herself - on her right arm. The incident occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. on Luitpoldstrasse, as reported by meine-news.de.

The owner of the attacking dog, an approximately 60-year-old man with a gray beard, and an unknown woman with long, straight, blonde hair, expressed little concern after the incident. They simply walked away with their dog without paying any attention to the injured woman. She was then taken to hospital, where she received the necessary medical care. The police have already started an investigation and are looking for both the dog owner and other witnesses who observed the incident.

Dog accidents in context

Statistics show that dog bites are not isolated incidents. There are between 30,000 and 50,000 bite injuries in Germany every year. Dogs account for around 70% of incidents, as hundundhaustier.de explains. However, in the current situation the circumstances are particularly worrying. There is no obligation to report bite injuries, but almost 15% of all accidents involving animals can be attributed to dogs. It often becomes particularly dangerous when walking the dog, where a third of all incidents occur.

The Aschaffenburg police are not only targeting the owner of the attacking dog, but are also asking for information from passers-by who can help clarify the incident. Anyone with information can call 06021/857-2230.

In a city like Aschaffenburg, where many people bring their dogs with them, such mindfulness is particularly necessary. Unfortunately, statistics show that children and older people in particular are often affected by dog attacks. This raises the question of how important it is to keep dogs properly and always keep them on a leash in public spaces.
