Bach magic in Bamberg: Léa Duret plays the cello suites live!
On Friday, June 20, the city of Bamberg is expecting a very special musical event. In the Elisabethenkirche in the sand, the French cellist Léa Duret will perform the first three suites for violoncello solo by Johann Sebastian Bach. This event, which begins at 5:30 p.m., forms the start of Fête de la Musique and pulls music lovers from near and far.
Admission to this concert is free, but the organizers of the “Interesting ...” initiative are happy about donations that are collected at the exit. This initiative is not only committed to promoting organ concerts, but also organizes one or two special concerts without organ per season to give space to the artistic diversity.
Bach's masterpieces in focus
The performance of the suites, especially BWV 1007, 1008 and 1009 , not only brings the musical highlights of Bach, but also shows the impressive technology and musicality of Léa Duret. This top -class interpreter has already worked with many renowned orchestras in Europe and demonstrated her talent, among other things, as a professor of violoncello at two Paris Conservators since 2013.
The six suites, which have been handed down between 1727 and 1731 in a manuscript by Anna Magdalena Bach, are considered essential works in violon cello literature. Bach created the suites, which place high technical requirements for players and whose virtuosity is widely recognized. Especially the first suite that begins with a Prélude in G major shapes the character of these music works. The formal structure of these suites, which consists of consecutive sentences such as allemands, Courante, Sarabande and Gigue, reflects the fashionable court dances of the time and inspired generations of musicians.
Léa Duret: A musical talent with rich history
léa Duret received the first prize for cello and chamber music at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris at the age of 19. She has expanded her comprehensive musical training through numerous master classes and engagements in symphony and chamber orchestras across Europe. In addition, from 2007 to 2009 she taught the Edward Said National Conservatory in Palestine and connected her experience as a chamber musician in projects that combine music with theater and poetry.
In November 2022, Duret published a double CD with the complete suites for violoncello solo by Johann Sebastian Bach, which documents her artistic examination of these masterpieces. With this performance in Bamberg, she will now have the opportunity to present her interpretation live and to kidnap the listeners into the fascinating world of baroque music.
music fans and cultural lovers should never miss this event. It is an excellent way to experience the beauty of Bach's music in the beautiful backdrop of the Elisabethenkirche and at the same time to enjoy a piece of cultural history up close.
