Chaos in Bamberg: drugs, accidents and a scandalous incident!

Recently there have been several incidents in Bamberg that have attracted the attention of the police. A particularly brutal bicycle theft is at the center of the news. On Sunday, a Conway brand Pedelec in blue and orange colors worth around 3,600 euros was stolen. The bike disappeared from a bike rack on Brennerstrasse between 5:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. The Bamberg City Police Department is asking for information on 0951/9129-210 Wiesentbote reported.

But that's not enough! On the same day, a traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Kunigundendamm and Marienbrücke, in which a VW driver disregarded the right of way of an Opel driver. Both vehicles collided head-on, resulting in injuries to the drivers, who were then taken to hospital. The material damage amounts to around 6,000 euros and both cars are no longer drivable.

Alcohol and drugs on the roads

The repeated problem of drunk drivers also played a role in the most recent controls in Bamberg. On the night from Friday to Saturday, four road users were stopped because of alcohol or drug consumption. For example, a moped driver had an alcohol level of 1.44 per mille. A cyclist was also caught with a blood alcohol level of 1.62, a driver was caught with a blood alcohol level of 1.02 and another driver sniffed marijuana, which made it impossible for him to continue driving. In these cases, the police ordered blood samples to be taken and prohibited further travel. How In Franconia reported, this is just part of the problem, which is also worrying nationwide.

According to the Federal Statistical Office, there is an alarming number of alcohol-related traffic accidents across Germany. Although the numbers have fallen slightly in recent years, the topic remains relevant. The latest survey, published on July 5, 2024, documents developments since 1995. The data is on the platform Statista available and highlight the ongoing challenges faced by road safety.

Further incidents in Bamberg

In addition to the cases mentioned above, there were other incidents that also concerned the police. This led to an accident in Heinrichshöhe, where a traffic sign was bypassed. The material damage here amounts to around 150 euros. A fire was also caused in a waste storage room due to improper disposal of hot ash. The material damage was around 40,000 euros, but fortunately there were no injuries.

A younger e-scooter driver, just 16 years old, was also checked and admitted to consuming cannabis. He was handed over to his mother, while a 52-year-old e-bike rider drew attention with a blood alcohol level of 1.66. He also faces fines and points in Flensburg.

Bamberg police remain vigilant to ensure safety on the streets and combat these concerning trends. It is important that all road users are aware of their responsibilities and behave accordingly.
