On Monday afternoon, a serious traffic accident occurred on the B505 between Hirschaid and Pettstadt, which completely paralyzed the federal highway. The incident, reported by inFranken, happened on July 14, 2025, when a 76-year-old driver entered the oncoming lane in a right-hand bend. There he collided head-on with a tractor-trailer, resulting in a dramatic accident.
Fortunately, the 58-year-old tractor-trailer driver was uninjured, while the elderly driver suffered serious injuries and was temporarily trapped in his vehicle. He had to be taken to hospital, where his condition was presumably stabilized. The recovery of the vehicles took until the evening hours and the police urged drivers to avoid the closed route as far as possible.
Blocking and damage
The B505 remained completely closed for the duration of the operation, which led to significant traffic disruptions in the region. The damage to both vehicles is also significant, with the total damage estimated at an impressive 85,000 euros. The exact cause of the accident is still unclear; investigations are ongoing.
Another unfortunate accident on the B505, in which a 42-year-old Audi driver crashed head-on into a 61-year-old Toyota driver on Sunday evening, shows that safety remains a major concern on these roads. In this incident, five people were seriously injured, including the wife and two children of the Audi driver, as Nordbayern reported.
