CSD in Bayreuth: Never quiet again! - Pride Week starts soon!

It gets colorful in Bayreuth in summer! The Queer Bayreuth e.V. has scheduled Christopher Street Day (CSD) for July 26, 2025, and the motto couldn't be more appropriate: “Never be quiet again”. This is not just a personal statement, but part of a nationwide campaign that takes part in numerous CSDs in Germany and draws attention to the current challenges for the LGBTQIA+ community. Given the rising social and political tensions for queer people, such events are more important than ever.

The celebrations will begin with Pride Week, scheduled to take place July 21-27, 2025. Here, visitors can experience many facets of queer culture in a colorful program. The opening event will be an HIV & STI rapid test at the University of Bayreuth, followed by a queer gaming event. A drag workshop and a queer zoo tour are also on the program. Pride Week promises not only informative but also entertaining offers for all fans of the queer community.

CSD highlights and important information

The CSD itself starts on July 26th at 3:00 p.m. at the Ehrenhof. The route leads from there via Maximilianstrasse, Schulstrasse, Kanalstrasse to Friedrichstrasse and back to Ehrenhof. The big rally will take place at 4:30 p.m., characterized by music, speeches and cultural contributions. Musical highlights include performances by Bridget Brilliant and the band Schrödingers Taube. Political voices like those of Dr. Andreas Zippel, the second mayor of Bayreuth, and Sina Mehrdad from Füreinander in Upper Franconia will also be heard.

The rally is supported by numerous organizations, including Amnesty International and the Aidsberatung Oberfranken, which underlines the importance of the event. But that's not all: In the evening there will be a CSD afterparty in the Glashaus Bayreuth, where students and participants can enjoy reduced admission.

Safety precautions and social significance

Given the increasing violence against LGBTI+ people around the world, which often goes unpunished, it is even more important that such holidays take place. According to Amnesty International, LGBTI+ rights are systematically violated, particularly in countries such as Iraq, Uganda and Turkey. Discrimination and violence against queer people is a sad reality in many nations, often fueled by political rhetoric. Amnesty documents these grievances and shows how important the commitment to the rights of the LGBTI+ community is.

In Bayreuth, the CSD should also send a strong signal against these injustices and remind people of the situation worldwide. The success and participation in the CSD reflects the desire to create an open and inclusive society.

Further information is available on the Queer Bayreuth and supporting organizations websites. The anticipation of a colorful summer full of pride and solidarity can already be felt!
