Almost 100-year-old fulfills his heart's desire: an emotional reunion in Nuremberg

A moving experience recently happened to the almost 100-year-old Erich from Grassau, who thanks to the Heartfelt desire for hospice mobile of the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) was able to visit his former home in Nuremberg. The sick man wanted to see the city of his childhood again before he had to go on his final journey. The hospice mobile responded to this request at short notice, and the two dedicated employees Christa and Simone organized the trip, which was of great importance for Erich.

The Herzenswunsch hospice mobile is particularly specialized in fulfilling the last wishes of people in palliative situations, such as Heart's Desire Hospice Mobile reveals. The wishes are planned taking into account the mobility of the passengers and can range from visits to the Bundestag to family reunions. This is a free service financed by donations. The prerequisite for the fulfillment of the wishes is that they are not possible without support due to the health condition.

Reunion with old friends

When he arrived in Nuremberg, Erich not only explored the old town and treated himself to delicious grilled sausages, but also visited a very special place: a church where he rescued his parents from the rubble during the war. Here he realized what memories and emotions were associated with this place.

Another of Erich's heartfelt wishes was to meet his best friend Andi from Erlangen, with whom he had once set up a carpentry business. His branch managers from the hospice mobile looked for Andi's son and actually found him. The next day the group went to Erlangen, where the most emotional reunion imaginable took place. Erich and Andi lay in each other's arms in tears, surrounded by old colleagues and Andi's sons, who shared the joy of seeing each other again.

Find peace and fulfill desires

This touching journey not only fulfilled Erich's last great wish, but also helped him find peace and say goodbye. Christina Fuchs, the deputy head of the hospice mobile, expressed her thanks to the two women Christa and Simone, who had put so much heart and soul into Erich's concerns.

The valuable work of the Hospizmobil and similar projects initiated by organizations such as the AWO place great value on self-determination in the last phase of life. The AWO promotes personal freedoms and supports people in recording their wishes in pension documents. AWO For many, advice on these issues is the last straw in maintaining some dignity and control during this difficult time.

Erich's story reminds us that even in the final stages of life, dreams can come true - and that we should never stop letting our hearts speak.
