Sheep farmers in Berchtesgadener Land: Wool and bluetongue in focus!
In the picturesque Berchtesgadener Land, the annual general meeting of sheep farmers was recently held at the “Goldener Bär” inn. A highlight of this event was the review by chairman Martin Winkelmair, who praised the good acceptance of the stable get-together and pointed out a possible new date in winter 2025 at Herbert Tschakert in Anger. The meeting began with a solemn service in the parish church of St. Andreas, which was dedicated to the deceased members.
Michael Kaiser from the Office of Agriculture provided important information about bluetongue disease, which was also supplemented by representatives of the veterinary office. This topic is always a topic of conversation in the sheep farming community because the health of the animals is a top priority.
Honors and new elections
The meeting was particularly distinguished by numerous honors: Albert Aschauer, Rudolf Höpler, Kaspar Renoth, Eduard Schmid and Wolfgang Strauch were honored for 25 years of membership. Many thanks also went to the departing committee members Stefan Koch, Gerhard Eschlberger and Matthias Aschauer, who together served on the board for an impressive 72 years.
The new elections under the leadership of Dr. Christian Mendel brought the following results: Martin Winkelmair remains 1st board member, Johann Wein jun. becomes 2nd board member, and Julia Graitl excels as cashier. The other positions on the board were also successfully filled, while the auditors Julia Albert and Alois Simic were praised for their work.
Projects and outlook
There was also a positive outlook on the past few months with regard to participation in Biosphere Day in Teisendorf. Not only could information be provided here, but animals of the Gray Horned Heidschnucke breed could also be presented. In addition, a wool collection point took place at Herbert Tschakert in Anger at the end of October, where an impressive 1.5 tons of wool were donated.
Unfortunately, a trip to Austria had to be canceled due to foot and mouth disease, which was the second big topic at the meeting. At the end of the meeting, Matthias Aschauer thanked everyone for the good cooperation and wished the new board all the best.

Overall, the meeting once again showed how committed the members of the sheep farming community in Berchtesgadener Land are and that they always have a good hand for the challenges of the future.
