A tragic traffic accident shook the small community of Hunding in the Deggendorf district early on Saturday morning, October 25th. As the Augsburger Allgemeine reports, a 23-year-old driver drove his vehicle off the state road and drove down an embankment. The car overturned, throwing the driver out of the car. Despite quick resuscitation measures by paramedics on site, the young man died a short time later from his serious injuries.
It was an unforgivable accident that raises questions because the ultimate cause of the accident remains unclear for the time being. The accident occurred on a Saturday morning when other drivers spotted the overturned vehicle and immediately raised the alarm. Police have so far no indication that another vehicle was involved in the incident. The state highway was completely closed until 9:30 a.m. while the accident was being investigated.
Escape after a serious accident
There was another serious incident in the region recently when a 29-year-old driver was driving his BMW/7, Alpina on the B 533 towards Hengersberg on Sunday evening. This man overtook two vehicles despite the overtaking ban and ultimately lost control of his car. According to the PNP, he skidded into the ditch, leaving his 24-year-old passenger seriously injured, while he himself fled on foot.
The police deployed a large contingent of fire departments, mountain rescue services and the Red Cross to search for the fugitive driver. About 120 firefighters were involved, while a police helicopter assisted in the search. The driver we were looking for was finally found around 9:45 p.m., about a kilometer from the scene of the accident - slightly injured and obviously heavily intoxicated, as a blood sample showed. He now faces serious legal consequences, including investigations into endangering road traffic.
