Turtle on the run: Landau police are looking for its owner!

A very special animal visit caused a stir at the Landau police station on Thursday morning. At 10:30 a.m., an attentive animal lover discovered a free-roaming turtle on Fritz-Kollmann-Straße. In order to keep the animal safe from city traffic, he took it straight to the police. There, the officials and the intern Pascal took over the care of the turtle, whose origin and route to the site are still unclear.

Officials quickly determined that the turtle was not only unharmed, but also in good health. Unfortunately, she did not reveal any information about her name and place of residence. Despite intensive research, no owner has yet been found. Manuel, one of the investigators, said police suspect the turtle might not be far from its home. However, the search for the owner has so far been unsuccessful.

Animal-friendly solutions

To ensure that missing animals find their way back to their owners more easily, the German Animal Welfare Association offers a valuable service called FINDEFIX. Animals that have a microchip can be registered here. This microchip, which is about the size of a grain of rice, allows veterinarians, animal shelters and the police to quickly identify the owner. A free registration at www.findefix.com is the first step in caring for an animal efficiently.

The turtle was ultimately taken to the Passbrunn animal shelter, where it will be well looked after while the search for its owner continues. The police are making an urgent appeal to the owner or anyone who might have information to contact the police or the animal shelter immediately. Because every clue could be crucial for the reptile and its return home.

A similar incident would have caused a stir in the region in recent days when a parrot named Bruce escaped from Pilsting, but the turtle remains the only animal emergency in Landau so far. The police hope that this story has a happy ending and that the owner comes forward soon.

So if you would like to find out more about the options for registering your pet or need tips on finding missing animals, take a look at the offers from FINDEFIX. Many animals can be saved from an unwanted adventure, especially if they are marked early.
