In the Diocese of Eichstätt, the good cause will be a priority in 2024: around 835,000 euros will be used to support a total of 60 projects worldwide. These projects cover a wide range, from educational initiatives to environmental protection to social justice efforts. The focus is particularly on aid to Ukraine, which is supported with 15,000 euros from the disaster fund. This shows once again how important solidarity with disadvantaged countries is, especially in times of crisis. Another important project is being implemented in Burundi, East Africa. Here, 65,788 euros will flow into the expansion of the social and pastoral center in Bugendana, while the vocational school continues to be built, which is expected to be completed in 2026. These are steps that can make a significant contribution to improving local living conditions. In addition, the city of Litoměřice in the Czech Republic received 25,600 euros in support and the Indian city of Poona received 9,500 euros in support.
Not just money, but also education
A crucial element of support is education. The diocese has held 31 events that have generated a great deal of interest: 1,960 participants took part in these educational events, a pleasing increase compared to the previous year. The goal here is to “think globally and act locally” and care is taken to ensure that raising awareness about the universal church is not neglected.
The missio Network has gained an enormous amount of experience in the area of global church cooperation over the last 185 years. Founded in Aachen in 1832, it promotes the faith worldwide and supports partners in Africa, Asia and Oceania.
A strong network for the world church
The activities of the missio diocesan representatives focus not only on financial support, but also on promoting dialogue and exchange. Various information and cultural events, seminars and trips are offered that strengthen understanding of the universal church. This is particularly the case during World Mission Month, when targeted actions take place to promote awareness and engagement on global issues.
